Budding Builders is a bold and exciting initiative delivering construction-related training and careers advice to young people in their local communities.
It introduces training, apprenticeships, work-experience and careers in a fresh new way and aims to engage participants in further education or training with local employers in the construction industry. The Mobile Classroom is a vehicle which delivers tools, materials and a trainer to different locations enabling them to teach basic construction skills to young people. They can take part in sessions ranging from carpentry, tiling and plumbing to painting and decorating and health and safety.
Trainees can also take part in Practical Community projects which provide young people with work experience in the heart of their local community. Young unemployed residents gain vocational experience by transforming their local area by building a new pathway or new seating areas for residents or refurbishing empty properties or community centres. With the support of industry contractors who donate tools, materials, labour and technical expertise, the trainees develop a wide range of construction skills from planning to laying the final slab. Each participant has the opportunity to make a valuable investment in their career development and in the process make a long-lasting contribution to the local community
